A bit about us

I’m Charlotte and I am the Senior Events Manager.

I have been working at St Rocco’s since 2018.  Before starting my role, I completed a degree in Events Management from the University of Chester.  Outside of work, I have a three-year old daughter who keeps me very busy!

I’m Jen and I am the Events Assistant

I started in this role in 2023 but before this, I was a volunteer for 5 years, spending time on IPU, reception and as a befriender. My background is in customer service.  I am currently renovating a house so my spare time is spent knocking walls down!

Our role

Our job is to plan, organise and run events throughout the year to keep people engaged and supporting the hospice.  We have a target of raising £270k each year.  This is done by planning a range of events that appeal to lots of different people whilst managing our budget. We also support people who are fundraising for St Rocco’s through challenge events.

A typical day

You probably hear this a lot, but no two days are the same in Events!  When planning an event, typical tasks include visiting venues, event research, project planning, completing risk assessments, and getting quotes from suppliers.  For events that have been planned, we will set up staff briefings, create registration forms, recruit volunteers, promote our event and book any external companies that are needed.  We spend a lot of time stewarding supporters.  This includes sending out resources, motivating people in their training and encouraging them in their fundraising.

One moment I will always remember

Jen: My first dragon boat event.  I was amazed how much support the hospice had from the community.  It gave me such a warm feeling inside (despite the freezing wind and rain all day!)

Charlotte: I recently took part in one of our events – the glass and fire walk – to see from the other side how our supporters experience the events.  It was fun to see an event from this side.

What I love about what I do

We will never get tired of that relief and joy we feel when we see an event come together, and when we chat to supporters about why they chose to get involved.  To know that we work hard behind the scenes to bring in the money to help pay for patient care is so important to us.
