Caring for Carers

We know how hard it can be to suddenly find yourself as a full time carer for a loved one.

It’s not just our patients who need our care and support – we help those around the patient, too.

You can find that life is suddenly very different and there can be a lot to take in and understand. You may even perhaps be trying to hide how you may be feeling from your loved one who is ill or from other members of your family and friends.

There are a number of ways that St. Rocco’s offer support to those caring for a loved one, this includes:

We care coffee afternoon

Every Tuesday our volunteers run a we care coffee afternoon which is an opportunity for carers in the local community to come along and meet other carers for support with tea, cake and activities like bingo. This is a well needed break and opportunity for carers to take some time for themselves as well as socialise and make friends.

Carers events

This year we hosted a caring for carers afternoon along with a summer fayre where carers and professionals within this area across the community came together.

Relaxation groups

Our Therapies team offer relaxation groups to carers which is a chance to sit back and relax in our calm and therapeutic relaxation room. Relaxation allows the individual to switch off and forget about daily life for a short time by relaxing the mind and body.

Yoga

Our Therapies team run a group for yoga where individuals can come along to learn the different techniques that they can then take and carry out at home as and when its convenient.
