‘Sponsor a Nurse’ is a chance for the people of Warrington to show their support to our nursing team through a monthly gift of £15. In exchange for this donation you will receive regular updates from our team so that you can get to know them and find out how your donations help to ensure the future of St. Rocco’s Hospice.
This month we spoke to Kath, one of our Healthcare Assistants, who works with our patients in The Vitality Centre.
Kath has worked at St. Rocco’s for an amazing 22 years and says it’s just as much of a privilege to work here today as it was in 1999. “I decided to start working in palliative care to spend more quality time with the patients I was seeing. Caring for people who are living with life-limiting illnesses makes you realise how precious time is and helping make sure our patients are comfortable and feel loved is such a rewarding part of my job” she told us.
Our patients and their loved ones often feel a huge range of emotions when they come to us at the hospice and Kath tells us, “The good outweighs the bad at the hospice, it’s of course a difficult time for our patients but knowing that we are going on the journey with them and supporting them and their family and friends often makes them feel so much better”.
In the two decades that Kath has worked here she’s been to many events and seen countless visitors, so what is her most memorable moment? “I have met so many inspirational people over the years, I couldn’t name just one!”
We’re so proud of the work that Kath and the team do here at the hospice, we truly could not do what we do without them and we are so happy that Kath has chosen to stay with St. Rocco’s for so long, here’s to another 22 years!
