Sonya Currey

Chief Executive Officer

A registered nurse by background Sonya has held roles in both hospital and community settings. It was during her role as a district nurse that her passion for palliative and end of life care developed and where she achieved her MSc Advanced Practice in the discipline.

Sonya has gone on to hold a range of clinical, operational and transformational leadership roles within community healthcare providers across the region and has recently held a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Chester.

Consequently, she has developed her knowledge and experience in a range of health and social care systems.  Working collaboratively with partners and communities to deliver on the ambitions of local areas whilst always remaining focused on person centred care.

Resident in the local area Sonya feels particularly privileged to have the opportunity to again work within her local health and care sector in close partnership with the community.  Striving to ensure palliative and end of life care continues to achieve a high profile, she will focus her influence on building partnerships, collaboration, and innovation to deliver services that are high quality and able to continue to meet the needs of the local community.

Sara Black)

Sara Black

Chief Operating Officer

Sara started her career as a newly qualified community staff nurse in Leeds Community Healthcare trust, where her passion for community care and palliative care developed.

She moved to Warrington in 2007 to continue her career in community nursing and in 2010 gained her BSC Hons Specialist Practitioner Qualification. Sara has worked across 4 geographical areas of Warrington leading the district nursing teams including the out of hours service.

Sara continued her passion for community nursing leading the development of integrated community teams. Providing clinical leadership to inter-disciplinary teams across organisational boundaries to deliver a new model of care for adults in Warrington.

Most recently in response to the pandemic her post as on-site contact for community services involved developing relationships with partners across community and acute settings. During the last 18 months Sara has implemented new pathways of care to support safe and timely discharges.  In 2020 Sara was proud to be awarded the Queens Nurse title; which demonstrates a high level of commitment to patient centred values and continually improving practice.

Sara has significant knowledge, experience and ability to respond to challenges across both health and social care, working collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to understand and deliver on system priorities. A compassionate leader with high resilience and commitment to support people in developing and growing as part of high performing teams.

Catherine Vannerem-Martin)

Catherine Vannerem-Martin

Finance Director

Catherine is responsible for St Rocco's finances, ensuring every penny raised is accounted for and used to support patient care. Her role also incorporates IT, information governance and facilities.

Following her degree in Economics, Catherine started her career in accountancy with Coopers & Lybrand. After over 10 years in practice, she joined St. Rocco’s in 2004.

Catherine also taught at Priestley College for 7 years and Bridgewater High School in business, finance and languages whilst raising her family.

Passionate about healthcare and particularly hospice care, Catherine strengthened her links with Warrington health commissioners through her role as non-executive director of Warrington Primary Care Trust until 2013.  She puts patient care and long-term sustainability as her top priorities.

Dr. Esraa Sulaivany)

Dr. Esraa Sulaivany

Medical Director / Caldicott Guardian

Dr. Sulaivany graduated from the University of Salahaddin in 1992 and, after the completion of her general medical training in the UK, joined St. Rocco's in August 2005. She gained her Diploma in Palliative Medicine from Cardiff University in 2009.

Dr. Sulaivany is our consultant in palliative medicine, she worked at the hospice since August 2005. She has gained the medical director role in 2021.

She is passionate about ensuring excellent specialist palliative care provision to all patients and their families across Warrington. Dr. Sulaivany lead on the Warrington SPC education and training.

Tracy Griffin)

Tracy Griffin

Registered Manager – Clinical Lead, Outreach Services

Tracy began her career in South Manchester Hospitals, and soon realised her passion for palliative care.

She joined St. Rocco’s as a staff nurse in 1995, subsequently became a Junior Sister and then took on the role of Inpatient Unit Manager, leading the team in meeting the ongoing challenges faced in modern palliative care. Along with a senior nursing colleague she then went on to establish St. Rocco’s Hospice at Home service.

She is passionate that the Warrington community receives access to the services they require to enable living well with a life-limiting illness, which led to her undertaking the role of Clinical Lead - Outreach Services, which incorporates the management of the Vitality Centre. Tracy is developing integrated services with other organisations to ensure peoples palliative care needs are met

Tracy is the Registered Manager for St. Rocco’s Hospice. She is also passionate about enabling and developing her staff to deliver the highest quality care to our patients and families.

Sylvie Cooke)

Sylvie Cooke

Quality Lead

Sylvie is an experienced nurse, she qualified at Guys Hospital in 1981 and specialised in orthopaedic nursing. Sylvie always had an interest in the work of hospices and welcomed the opportunity to join St. Rocco’s in March 1998 initially as a bank nurse.

She has worked in a variety of roles at St Rocco’s, including Ward Sister on IPU.

Sylvie’s current role as a Clinical Lead IPU – Clinical Educator, enables her to use her experiences to lead the IPU team in delivering the highest quality care to our patients, whilst also leading on education and training for all clinical staff. Sylvie is enthusiastic about developing the knowledge and skills of the clinical team for the benefit of hospice patients.
